Despite parting ways with their long-serving guitarist Evil Harrisons are going from strength to strength. In fact, they're positively gagging to go back into the studio.
Proof that Irish rock is in rude good health, Evil Harrisons boast slick metal riffs and vocals reminiscent of Josh Homme on this track, but who cares? That home-grown intrinsically Irish romantic title does all the donkey work. Of course it vies for attention with the B-side’s “Quit raising my Cane!”
After two years and two limited releases, the Evil Harrisons finally hit their stride in spectacular fashion. Six tracks on a debut single may seem to be a bit presumptuous but, like The Rags before them, they exude the confidence to make it all sound effortless. The pick of the bunch is ‘Some Grand Plan’, a bizarre clash of guitars, vocals that sound like Bob Dylan having a go at rapping and a shuffling dance beat.
The other five tracks are no slouch either, displaying an equally admirable disregard for convention. With both 8Ball and The Rags themselves gone AWOL, this might just be the lot to do it.
Fresh from wowing the crowd and walking away with the prize at the National Student Music Awards The Delorentos will play Whelan's, Dublin in May as part of The IMRO Showcase Tour.
